Hazard classifications and waste and product assessments

We are happy to support you in correctly grading and classifying your products or waste materials from many different production areas. We can identify the chemical and physical properties of potentially hazardous materials or mixtures containing hazardous materials through comprehensive environmental and material analyses, and complete specialty evaluations or assessments for you.

ADR - L’Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route

Classification of materials, solutions and mixtures according to the Hazardous Goods Transportation Ordinance: We can complete the following classifications, among others, for your test samples based on our analyses and the provisions of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR):

- UN no.
- ADR class
- Packaging group

Testing and assessment to determine environmental soundness:

We can test your products from an environmental point of view, to determine whether soil and groundwater could be impacted by their use. One typical application, for example, is drilling mud (bentonite). We use the following assessment standards, among others, in our evaluations:

  • Principles of the Deutschen Instituts für Bautechnik (DIBt – German Institute for Structural Engineering) for assessing building products
  • Soil limit values list according to the Länderarbeitsgemeinschaft Abfall LAGA (German Working Group of the Federal States on Waste Issues)
  • Bundes-Bodenschutz- und Altlastenverordnung (BBodSchV – Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Ordinance)
  • No impact levels for groundwater according to the German Working Group of the Federal States on Water Issues
  • Specifications of the Düngemittelverordnung (DüMV – Fertilizer Ordinance)
  • WGK classification according to the AwSV: Verordnung über Anlagen zum Umgang mit wassergefährdenden Stoffen (Ordinance on systems for handling water pollutants

WGK – Water hazard classes

Materials and mixtures are classified in terms of their water polluting properties through comprehensive analysis and by determining the relevant water hazard class. The following categories apply:

  • not water polluting (nwg)
  • WGK 1: slightly water polluting
  • WGK 2: water pollutant
  • WGK 3: heavily water polluting
  • general water pollutant (awg)

CLP - Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures

We can help you in correctly classifying, labelling and packaging materials and mixtures based on our analyses. Results of our assessments may include, for instance:

  • Hazardous ingredients
  • Inclusion in hazard classes and hazard pictograms
  • H-sets, P-sets and signal words
  • Exposure assessments

Waste law

We can also support you in clarifying questions related to waste law by considering the statutory provisions of the EU and national regulations of the federal government and the German states, and carrying out specialized analyses.

  • Waste product differentiation
  • Determining AVV numbers
  • Determining whether waste materials are hazardous or non-hazardous according to HP criteria
  • Grading into landfill classifications

We will be happy to support you in creating safety data sheets according to the REACH or material information sheets for materials or mixtures. We use findings on chemical and physical properties from both our own and external analyses, classifications, and a large number of other available specialty information sources.
