The Horn & Co. Group is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Its core business is the creation and continuous optimization of operational processes in a field that is more relevant today than ever: the circular economy, or recycling. The Horn & Co. Group has been active as a recycling company since 1922; today, it operates under the motto “Strength Through Diversity” in the areas of processing, waste disposal, analysis, and product sales. The anniversary celebration on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, was not primarily focused on looking back, but rather on looking ahead to the future, together with employees and business partners.
As a medium-sized family-owned business based in the Siegerland region, the Group has always been committed to both future generations and the environment, ensuring the responsible and sustainable use of resources.
The four business divisions—Industrial Services, Minerals Recovery, Products, and Analytics—operate as a functional network within the circular economy, consistently striving to achieve a closed-loop material cycle through raw material recycling. Today, over 500 employees work across 14 locations in five European countries.
The celebration was attended by business partners, representatives from politics and trade associations, as well as employees who have accompanied—and will continue to accompany—the long, historic journey from “Industriebedarf GmbH,” founded in 1922, to today’s family-owned “Aktiengesellschaft SE.” Friday, designated as “Business Partner Day,” was entirely dedicated to the spirit of partnership in the circular economy. The guest and speaker list included, among others, Jürgen Alex (CEO of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke and member of the Swiss Steel Group Executive Board), Volkmar Klein (Member of the German Bundestag for the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, CDU), and Klaus Gräbener (Managing Director of the Siegen and Olpe Chamber of Industry and Commerce).
While Klaus Gräbener presented CEO Argjend Kameraj and Supervisory Board Chairman Gert Horn with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s “100 Years” certificate of honor, Jürgen Alex expressed his gratitude for the long-standing partnership by presenting them with an oversized “Hüttenmann” figurine. Friday was rounded off by a panel discussion featuring the three guest speakers mentioned above and Dr. Lars Füchtjohann (CTO), charmingly moderated by Anne Willmes. Both the speeches and the discussion focused on sustainability, infrastructure expansion, the shortage of skilled workers, and the current political landscape.
Saturday was then entirely dedicated to the employees and their families. On this sunny May day, the grounds of Siegerland Airport offered a colorful program of activities with plenty of fun and games for young and old alike. The event was accompanied by culinary delights perfectly suited to the venue: various food stands offered an international selection, inviting guests on a mini-world tour right in the heart of the Siegerland region.
