This year, we once again had the pleasure of welcoming twelve new trainees from various companies within our corporate group. Each day offered new challenges and valuable information that optimally prepared our trainees for their new journey.

Since our founding in 1997, we at Tritech have been conducting corrosion tests, even though we started out very small back then. Our first test chamber, with a 400-liter capacity, was located in the storage room – a Corrotherm 610 for neutral salt spray tests. But salt spray chambers don’t like to be alone, so it was only a matter of time before more equipment arrived. The corrosion and climate testing department continued to expand steadily, leading us to expand our corrosion testing center in 2014. More chambers arrived and gradually filled the room.
The Horn & Co. Group has invested in a photovoltaic system at its laboratory in Wenden-Hünsborn as a deliberate step toward protecting the environment and optimizing its own cost structure. In the context of the expansion and relocation of our sample preparation department to the newly established PV (sample preparation) Hall 2 – the former production facility of a window manufacturer – the interest in and construction of sustainable energy sources was a logical next step.
For the first time, MIRECO and Horn & Co. Products GmbH have presented the “Mireco Decarbonization Award.” The 2023 award went to Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel GmbH & Co. KG, Siegen Plant (DEW), a subsidiary of the Swiss Steel Group.

Despite digital measurement systems and control units, process controls, and countless hours of brainstorming, unfortunate chains of events can still lead to components developing defects during manufacturing or in use. And just like that, we find ourselves deep down the rabbit hole of failure analysis.
On August 1, 2023, the nationwide Substitute Construction Materials Ordinance (EBV) and the revised Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Ordinance (BBodSchV 2021) will take effect. They are part of the so-called umbrella regulation, with the official title: “Regulation on the Introduction of a Regulation on Substitute Construction Materials, on the Revised Version of the Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Regulation, and on the Amendment of the Landfill Regulation and the Commercial Waste Regulation.”

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our runners from various departments took part again yesterday in the 19th Siegerland AOK Company Run.
We have been active in Kosovo since 2016 – and now, as a company based in the Siegerland region, we opened Horn & Co. Analytics SH.P.K. in Pristina, Kosovo, on May 14, 2022.
The Horn & Co. Group is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Its core business is the creation and continuous optimization of operational processes in a field that is more relevant today than ever: the circular economy, or recycling. The Horn & Co. Group has been active as a recycling company since 1922; today, it operates under the motto “Strength Through Diversity” in the areas of processing, waste disposal, analysis, and product sales. The anniversary celebration on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, was not primarily focused on looking back, but rather on looking ahead to the future, together with employees and business partners.
RHI Magnesita and the Horn & Co. Group are merging their recycling operations in Europe. Through this move, both companies will increase the production, use, and supply of secondary raw materials for the European refractory industry. At the same time, this will result in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Going forward, the newly formed joint venture will operate under the name Horn & Co. RHIM Minerals Recovery GmbH.
After holding senior positions in various departments of the Horn & Co. Group, Argjend Kameraj is embarking on a new chapter as of December 15, 2021. In doing so, he remains loyal to his professional home—with which he has been closely associated since 2007. This is a particularly moving step, not only for Kameraj, who had to leave his homeland as a child.
Since June 2021, we at Tritech have added a new member to our test chamber fleet. Even before the decline in orders caused by the pandemic, we were facing the challenge of not being able to meet some of our customers’ requests as fully as we would have liked.

In 2003, Caterpillar partnered with Zeppelin to launch the Rebuild Program in Germany, with the aim of extending the service life of construction equipment. This marked the beginning of a series of major overhauls of construction equipment.
Following a successful audit, our asbestos analysis services are now also recognized by the German Accreditation Body.

With the start of 2020, a new chapter begins in the nearly 100-year history of this family-owned business based in South Westphalia. The group is the first company in Siegen to adopt the new European legal form, the SE (Societas Europaea).

Over the past 25 years, Horn & Co. Analytics has built up a very broad range of services in the fields of materials and environmental analysis as well as hygiene. While the laboratory initially focused solely on refractory and steel analysis, it now also possesses considerable expertise in the fields of sampling, waste classification, water testing, workplace measurements, and many others.
Since the Legionella outbreak in Warstein in 2013, which resulted in numerous cases of illness and one death, it has been widely recognized that microbiologically contaminated aerosols from cooling towers and cooling systems can pose a health risk to the public.
This year, we once again organized “Trainee Days” for our new trainees, which will initially span three days—one day each. The primary purpose of these events is to get to know one another, strengthen team building, and clarify organizational matters with the skilled workers of tomorrow. Another important aspect is that our new trainees also get to know parts of the company and familiarize themselves with the history of the Horn & Co. Group.
In 2019, the HuK Environmental Laboratory celebrates its 25th anniversary. A lot has changed for us during this time. Over the past 25 years, we have significantly expanded our range of services.
